pc_met: Your Quick Access to Aviation Weather

pc_met Software

pc_met® is the meteorological self-briefing software for pilots to be used on a personal computer at home or at a club. Whether you just want to fly some rounds around the airfield, are planning an exciting distance flight with your sailplane, a balloon flight or a tour with your powered airplane, pc_met® provides you with the answers to your meteorological questions.

Apart from the extensive range of forecasts charts, meteorological reports and radar and satellite images, you also have access to the DWD's special products such as meteograms showing the weather conditions during the next 78 hours at selected locations. What will the weather be like along your planned flight route? pc_met® offers you the possibility of compiling METARs and TAFs according to your individual route and present you with satellite and radar image loops as well as lightning and weather maps. To retrieve the data you connect your computer to our server via the Internet or a remote data transmission connection. While you rest, pc_met® automatically retrieves the data according to your individual time schedule.

Have you got the current GAFOR, are the latest METARs being displayed? pc_met® tells you whether the requested products are up-to-date ('valid') or not, and updates the data if you wish to do so. The servers of the Deutscher Wetterdienst are unequalled in their up-to-dateness. With all this, plus the special forecasts for aviation, we provide you with everything a pilot needs to conform with the German air traffic regulations.

IFR, VFR, soaring, ballooning?

The pc_met® user editor allows you to choose your individual access. Sailplane pilots, balloonists or powered-aircraft pilots will find user interfaces adapted to their specific needs. It is also possible to define and store your own user profiles – which is ideal for the use of pc_met® in a club.

You need aviation weather data and forecasts for your flight? The wizard will help you: You indicate the departure and destination airports and select the type of flight (IFR, VFR, soaring or balloon) and desired flight level. pc_met® then displays all relevant aviation weather data and forecasts for your flight. If you wish you can also print out all the information obtained.

Quick look macros

pc_met Quick-Look

Do you always fly the same route or need the same reports, charts and radar images for your tours? pc_met® provides a solution to this: the quick look macro tool, which stores your selection of products, updates them on a mouse click and displays all requested aviation weather data and forecasts one after the other. If you wish, you can also print out everything to take it with you.

How is the visibility along you flight route, how high the ceiling? The METAR graphic tool provides a perfect overview of these and all other weather elements contained in the METARs and Synop reports. At one view, you have all information about the current weather available to you – not only for Germany but also for the whole of Europe and the Mediterranean areas.

You are planning to fly beyond the German borders? In this case, the GAFOR graphic offers you both, the forecast for Germany and an evaluation of the weather situation in Switzerland, Austria and even France.

TOPTHERM und TopTask

TOPTHERM Karte

Are you planning a distance flight in a sailplane? Then TOPTHERM combined with TopTask is a definite must. Will there be a shower or a thunderstorm, is the sky covering up or are turbulences to be expected? TOPTHERM provides you with the mean climbing rate for all GAFOR areas in Germany. Such thermal profiles are also available for the whole Alpine region, the Benelux countries, France and northern Spain, Poland and the Czech Republic (planned). On the basis of the type of aircraft and the wing load, TopTask calculates the planned flight route. The meteorological parameters, on which the simulation of the planned task is based, are the following: wind, mean climb rates, base heights, beginning and end of thermals."Outlanding after ... km" or "Task accomplishable":

TOPTASK Auswertung

TopTask calculates your planned soaring route on the basis of meteorological aspects. TopTask Competition enables you to compare the flights recorded in the IGC format with the forecasts and provides competition pilots with the ideal departure time for the task to be accomplished.

TEMP graphics

When and where will thermals start, is icing or the formation of lee waves to be expected? pc_met® includes a TEMP module allowing you to analyze both, current and predicted TEMP graphics. Of course, pc_met® also offers weather maps, radar and satellite images as well as weather reports and warnings for Europe.
